Lenovo B575 can run CentOS 5.7 and Hadoop

BestBuy has these on sale at $299.99, and they come with Windows 7 pre-installed:

Lenovo B575 1450ABU Laptop / AMD Dual-Core E-450 Processor / 15.6″ LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 320GB Hard Drive / Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive / Built-in 0.3MP webcam

Seems like a good low-cost option for a linux dev machine.  I removed Windows partitions and started with a clean net install of CentOS.  It ran without any significant problems (it did have trouble detecting Synaptics touchpad initially).  If you are planning to install Linux on a Lenovo B575 laptop, you will need the following:

Making X run on this system is not trivial – especially if you want to make it run at 1366×768 resolution this display is built for.  So if you are not into troubleshooting, pick a different laptop for Linux.

Mine also runs Cloudera’s Hadoop distro (HDFS, MapReduce, Hbase, Hue) as a single node (installed via SCM).  Note that I did a complete system update prior to running SCM:

# yum update
